Our Business - Médis

Médis was set up in 1995. It is an integrated health care and health insurance system, which brought to Portugal for the first time the managed care concept widely seen in countries with more developed health systems.

The innovative nature of Médis is mirrored in the creation and enlargement of a private health care system of national span, covering a wide range of medical specialities and services, including out-patient treatment, hospitalisation, physiotherapy and complementary means of diagnosis.

The singularity of the Médis concept lies, however, in the use of sophisticated communication and information platforms, through which primary care is provided to customers and efficiency is lent to cases requiring more urgent medical attention.

The Médis network, jointly with the other Group insurers, also provides assistance in case of injury and, in association with the Health Ministry, a help-line providing support and advice in the field of paediatrics.
