Coverage start dates:
Upon payment of the premium, coverage for the guaranteed risks begins as follows:
a) In the case of an accident, from the contract start date;
b) In the case of illness, 90 days after the contract start date.

Subscription conditions:
Only animals that meet the following conditions at the time of subscribing to the Pétis insurance can be included:

  • Be up to 10 years (Base option);
  • Have a minimum age of 4 weeks and a maximum age of 8 years (Plus, Platinum, and Premium options);
  • Be in good health, without disability or injury;
  • Have an up-to-date vaccination booklet with the vaccination plan.

Dangerous dog breeds:
The policyholder must also have the relevant license issued by the local Parish Council.
For the purposes of insurance subscription and according to the applicable legislation, the following breeds are considered dangerous:

  • Brazilian fila;
  • Argentine dogo;
  • Pit bull terrier;
  • Rottweiler;
  • American staffordshire terrier;
  • Staffordshire bull terrier;
  • Tosa inu.

We cover the compensation amount you have to pay for damages or losses caused by your pet to third parties. This coverage has a deductible of 10% of the compensable damages in the event of a claim, with a minimum payment of €150 and a maximum of €500.
This coverage applies:

  • Up to the limit of €50,000 per year.

We reimburse medical and medication expenses at any veterinarian for accidents, illness, surgery, sterilization, or castration after an accident or illness. There is a 90-day waiting period and a 10% deductible, with a minimum payment of €25.
This coverage applies:

  • Up to the limit of €600 per year in the Plus pack;
  • Up to the limit of €1,200 per year in the Platina pack;
  • Up to the limit of €2,200 per year in the Premium pack.

If your animal suffers bodily injury or causes material or bodily damage, we will cover the legal expenses of any criminal or civil proceedings that may arise.

Based on your specified search criteria, we will publish a notice in a national newspaper about your interest in finding a pet for up to one week. Additionally, we will reach out to up to five national entities, including veterinarians, associations, and others, to assist with the search. We'll also consult specialized databases of qualified suppliers to gather further information.

  • Up to the limit of €500 per year.

If the owner suffers an accident or sudden illness that requires hospitalization for more than 2 days, and if the insured pet is unable to receive the necessary care, we will cover the cost of the stay at a kennel or cattery.
This coverage applies:

If your pet goes missing, we will cover the cost of sending the missing notice and a photo of your pet to a local newspaper, to be published for up to 1 week. Additionally, we will notify up to 5 local organizations working in the animal sector —veterinarians, associations, and others — about the situation. Finally, we will search qualified suppliers' databases for information.
This coverage applies:

  • Up to the limit of €500 per year.

By calling (+351) 210 347 936, you can request information about emergency veterinary clinics, dog and cat hotels, clinic hours in Portugal and abroad, grooming and bathing services, and more. This assistance line is available on weekdays from 8:30 am to 7:00 pm. Calls are charged at the national landline rate.

In the event of your pet's death, we will assist with the process and arrange the funeral according to your instructions. Please note that all costs are your responsibility.
