Credit Broker
The Credit Mediator was introduced in the Portuguese Legal Framework by Decree-Law 144/2009, of 17 June to safeguard the "defence and promotion of the legitimate rights, guarantees and interests of any person or body in credit relationships", intending, this way, to contribute to improve access to credit.
Amongst the several competences attributed to the Credit Mediator, we highlight the following:
- Mediation between bank clients and credit institutions;
- Promotion of financial literacy in matters related to lending practices;
- Cooperation with Banco de Portugal, contributing for the compliance with legal and contractual requirements on lending practices;
- Follow-up of the credit activity and issue of opinions or recommendations on matters related with the activity.
