Account opening for residents in Portugal
You can open an account through our app, website, or at a branch.
The required documents are:
- Account Opening Proposal*
- Customer File and Signature Sheet*
- Citizen Card or original Identity Card or Personal Card (only if you do not have ID); or Taxpayer Card
- Proof of address (to prove tax address: water or electricity receipt, or other supporting document). This document must not be older than 12 months
- Proof of employment and professional entity (professional card, salary slip or any other supporting document).
*You can download these documents from our website or ask for them at a branch.

In addition, the Millennium Account can be enhanced with additional solutions that offer a range of advantages:

Yes. To open an account, both holders need to go to a branch and bring these documents:
ID documents
Valid ID (one of the following documents):
- Citizen Card (the only one accepted for opening an account online)
- Residence permit
- Passport
- National ID
Valid taxpayer number (one of the following documents):
- Citizen Card (the only one accepted for opening an account online)
- Taxpayer card
- Taxpayer register
Proof of address (last 12 months):
- National address (one of the following documents): Tax return statement / Utility invoice
- International address (one of the following documents): Tax statement issued by the tax authority of the country of residence / Consular document
Proof of professional status (last 6 months)
Employee (one of the following documents):
- Payslip
- Employer statement
- Employment contract
Freelancer (one of the following documents):
- Recibo verde
- Declaration of start of business activity
- Declaration together with the card issued by the Professional Body
Self-employed (one of the following documents):
- Certificate of Commercial Registry
- Company registration
Unemployed (one of the following documents):
- Declaration of unemployment (Employment Center Registration)
- Economic Situation Certificate issued by the Parish Council, if not registered in an Employment Center
Student (one of the following documents):
- Student card
- Proof of enrollment
- Declaration of university attendance
- Proof of payment of fees
You can activate it online at autenticacao.gov.pt if you are a citizen with a Citizen Card, a card reader, and the corresponding authentication PIN code.
Account opening for residents abroad
If you live abroad and do not have a Citizen Card, you should go to one of our representative offices in the following countries: Luxembourg, South Africa, Brazil, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Venezuela, or to one of the Banque BCP branches in France and bring all the necessary documentation:
- Certified photocopies of the mandatory documents of all holders and/or stakeholders.
- Print and fill out the following forms:
- Particular Conditions/Signature Sheet
- Customer Information Sheet
- General Conditions
- Standard Information Sheet
- Commission Information Document
- Depositor Information Form.
The authentication of documents can be done by the following entities:
- Local entities with the Hague Apostille or at Portuguese Consulates and Embassies.
If you live abroad and have a Citizen Card, you can open an account in the Millennium App or on our website.
There are several types of accounts:
- Individual Account - can only be managed by the holder;
- Joint Account - opened collectively, in which the holders declare and recognize themselves as joint holders;
- Mixed Account - a plural account in which debit transactions can only be made under the conditions expressly indicated by the holders in the Signature Form.
