How do Médis coverages work
Depending on your age, you can choose between 5 options. Each option is unique and contains a set of coverages. You can also add optional coverage for ambulatory care in option 1 and dental care in options 2 and 3.
The Médis insurance offers different coverages depending on the option subscribed. To learn more about the coverages, choose the option “Insurance details” and then “Coverages”.
Yes. Options 2 and 3 include the stomatology option. If you choose not to subscribe to stomatology coverage, you can still benefit from advantageous prices on the Médis Network.
Psychology coverage, psychoanalysis consultations or treatments, hypnosis, and sleep therapy are not covered. Still, you can enjoy preferential prices at psychologists who are part of the Rede de Saúde e Bem-Estar. You only have to present your Médis card.
Acupuncture, consultations, hydrotherapy, complementary medicine, homeopathy, osteopathy, chiropractic care, and any other practices not recognized by the Portuguese Medical Association are not covered. However, Médis customers can enjoy discounted rates at Health and Wellbeing Network providers, just show your Médis card.
Yes, but it will be considered a pre-existing condition, meaning you won’t be able to use the insurance for surgeries or cancer treatments related to it. While an already diagnosed cancer is excluded, you can still use the insurance for other undiagnosed health issues or complications arising from oncological treatments. The enhanced oncological protection excludes pre-existing conditions and benign tumors, as outlined in the general and special insurance conditions.
Expenses that are not included in the insurance are:
- Health problems prior to the insurance start date;
- Road accidents, work accidents, or occupational illnesses;
- Other accidents that are covered by other mandatory insurance;
- Consultations, treatments, and infertility tests, as well as artificial insemination methods;
- Aesthetic or reconstructive surgeries, unless included in the treatment of malignant disease;
- Any treatment to correct obesity and its consequences;
- Weight loss treatments and their consequences;
- Hemodialysis treatments;
- Organ transplants and their implications, unless additional coverage is purchased;
- Accidents and illnesses resulting from the professional practice of sports and participation, as an amateur, in sporting events integrated into championships and respective training;
- Use of two-wheeled, three-wheeled, or four-wheeled motor vehicles.
- Continuous care;
- Expenses for services that are not medically necessary;
- Dental implants, unless mentioned in the particular conditions of your insurance;
- Check-up (general health examinations), unless mentioned in the particular conditions of your insurance.
In the context of hospital admission, your health insurance will exclude expenses arising from:
- Surgical techniques designed to correct refractive errors (myopia, hyperopia, astigmatism, etc.);
- Surgical treatment of snoring.
Although, in this case, there is no financing from Médis, you can benefit from the prices agreed with the Médis Network. To do this, you just have to present your Médis card.
The insurance contribution is the percentage that Médis covers after the copayment. If the expense is within the Médis Network, reimbursement is immediate. For expenses outside the Médis Network, you'll need to submit a claim for reimbursement.
These are two Médis health insurance options that are available for customers between 55 and 75. Customers can subscribe without undergoing medical examinations or filling out clinical questionnaires.
These options do not end for reasons of age and allow access to a range of coverages that value the protection of your health: in addition to hospitalization and ambulatory coverage, you can benefit from extensive home care services, such as 1 vaccine per year against the flu, and the Online Doctor who is always with you through the Médis App, anytime and anywhere. It also has 2nd opinion coverage, which guarantees a specialist's opinion from the Navarra University Clinic in Spain.
The Vintage Plus option also includes coverage for serious illnesses, with a capital of €1,000,000. This coverage gives you access to specialists and prestigious hospital units abroad in the event of a serious illness (cancer, pathologies involving intracranial surgery, coronary bypass, heart valve replacement, and organ transplantation).
Following an accident that results in hospitalization (authorized by Médis), if the client becomes dependent on a third party, the assistance services coverage provides access to:
- Physiotherapy and nursing at home;
- Cleaning and personal hygiene at home;
- Home food services;
- Home delivery of medicines;
- Clinical analysis at home;
- Non-urgent transport
Because the diagnosis is not always easy and a second opinion may be essential, Médis guarantees the opinion of a specialist from the Navarra University Clinic in Spain.
